TRADITIONAL GAME
 0

Synopsis

For the past 2 years, the Algoma 1812 committees have been organizing a week of celebrations to commemorate the 200th anniverasy of the start of the war of 1812.  One of the events is a traditional lacrosse game which I (Glenn) have been planning for over a year.

This page will be updated monthly detaiing what is firm and what is in the planning stages.  Please send me an email if you would like to help in anyway.

The Game

Lacrosse players from all over the world are invited to re-anact an lacrosse game as it was played 200 years ago.  Groups of 30 - 90 players will use authentic sticks, wear traditional clothing and play by the rules of 1812.
Invitations are being sent to all First Nation bands and all lacrosse associations in Ontario over the winter.  Local players can register at this site in the spring.

The Show
The game will be the central part of evening of interactive entertainment for the specators.  First Nation drumming ceremonies will draw players and spectators to Rocky Depetro Field on Wednesday July 18, 2012.
Spectators will be on the field with the players during the pre-game cermonies.  The story of lacrosse in the Sault, during the time of the War of 1812 will be presented throughout the evening by professional actors.

The Organization
The objective is to put on a safe, fun and memorable event for what could be up to 300 players and 1,000 spectators.  This scale of event will require the help of about 2 dozen people.  I have broken down the to-do lists and time frames into 5 areas.  Below are quick outlines of what each group will do.

-be ready to support contracted EMS staff,
-be ready to support food/beverage and sales groups.

The FOOD & BEVERAGE group of 4 will:
-source, deliver and serve water and fruit to the players on the field,
-source, prepare and serve a BBQ meal for the players after the game (tentative)

The SALES group of 8 will:

The SHOW MANAGEMENT group of 6 will:

The game COACHES/CHIEFS group of 4 will:
